Policies
How is tuition calculated? Tuition is calculated on a per-lesson rate for 46 weeks then divided by 12 to create a monthly flat-rate. This will keep monthly tuition consistent regardless of the number of lessons in a month. The rates used to calculate tuition are $36 per 30-minute private lesson or $24 per duet or group lessons. The FPA calendar outlines the 46 weeks the studio is open.
How is tuition collected? Tuition is payable by check or automatically through a credit/debit card (Visa or MasterCard) or ACH checking account draft. All automatic payments are drafted on the 1st business day of the month for which the tuition is due. Students paying by check are asked to place their tuition check for each month in the tuition lock box located in the waiting room of the Durant Road studio by the 15th of the preceding month.
Students studying at our Glenwood Avenue studio or one of our after school programs are required to select one of the automated payment methods. Tuition checks received more than two weeks late (after the 1st of the month to which they apply) will be subject to a late fee of $15.00. Students will receive email reminders about past due tuition to help avoid this late fee having to be assessed.
What if I miss a lesson? FPA allows private students and family duet/group lesson students the ability to login to a scheduling portal to schedule make-up lessons, provided that 24 hours advance notice is given. Non-family duet and group lesson students must also provide 24 hours notice of absences to qualify for a make-up lesson; however, notice must be given to the front office at our Durant Road Location via direct conversation, voicemail, or email. Scheduling office hours are Monday through Friday 11am-1pm and Saturday 9am-1pm.
In the event that an instructor must miss a lesson, the instructor will arrange for an adequately prepared substitute to teach the lesson. In the extremely rare event that FPA has to cancel a lesson, students have the option of a tuition credit or a make up lesson. Please note: Closures due to inclement weather will be made up and cannot be deducted from tuition.
What is my obligation? We hope all of our students will be with us long enough to become lifelong musicians, but the required commitment is just monthly (we have no long-term contracts). We do require that withdrawal notice be given by the 15th of the month in which the student will withdraw. Please note: When students withdraw for any length of time (even just one summer month), FPA will not be able to reserve their slot. When the student returns, they will be subject to new registration and materials fees.
