Curriculum and Instructors
At Family Piano Academy, we use the Diamond Piano Method. Created by FPA founder, Gerry Diamond, the Diamond Piano Method (DPM) is unique to our studio and unlike any other program you will find in the Triangle.
|
What is the Diamond Piano Method?
- Proven methodology with over 2 decades of student success.
- Beginner-intermediate curriculum with unique, solfege-based, "hands-on" theory component.
- Improvisation taught in concert with traditional reading and technical development.
- Songs with pop-music sensibilities to capture student interest.
- Online games, tests and videos that tie directly to the curriculum.
- Unparalleled online support for teachers, students and parents
Young beginner class

Tamara Peters * tamara@familypianoacademy.com
Tamara began her teaching career as an elementary music teacher, spending a majority of her time working with grades K-2. After seven years, Tamara left the classroom to become a private piano and voice teacher. Her experience in the classroom has helped her develop strategies to help young children understand complex music theory concepts. Games and hands-on activities are used to practice rhythm and note-reading and students are taught strategies for practicing at home. Read Tamara's full bio on the staff page.

Gerry is the owner of Family Piano Academy and author of the Diamond Piano Method. He has taught individuals and group classes for over 20 years. Thanks to the strong music theory foundation developed when learning with the Diamond Piano Method, several of his students have gone on to become composers and songwriters. Gerry is excited to try out the new MIDI Assessor in a group setting. Read Gerry's full bio on the staff page.
STRUCTURE
Group piano lessons are one hour in length and serve 4-6 students. Group lessons utilize a teaching console that allows each student to hear any combination of his or her piano, the teacher piano, the teacher microphone, and the other students' pianos. These features enable both distraction free practice time and the opportunity to play in an ensemble setting.

MIDI ASSEssOR
We recently launched a feature on the practice portal that allows you to plug your keyboard into a computer. The program will listen to your playing and offer instant feedback!
It also includes settings that allow you to adjust the tempo, play only small sections of a song, or practice hands separately. |
Not only is this a great tool for at-home practice — it’s a game changer for group instruction. Students continue to get accurate feedback during independent practice time so the instructor can rotate around the class and offer individualized help to students.
